AMD vs Intel chips

Hi,

I’m wondering if anyone is using their memsql on amd’s latest chips? Considering a 3950x is really powerfull and quite cheaper than the competition how would it stack up against a 9980xe or soon to be released 10980xe? Does anyone have any real world benchmarks and not just speculations?

I’m leaning towards a ryzen/threadripper(3950x, 2950x, 1950x, 3900x,…) chip since it’s cheaper but I’m not sure just yet.

We do our testing on Intel and a lot of the performance is coming from leveraging a “vectorized” query processor that doesn’t do many branch mispredictions, operates on compressed data, and leveraged AVX2 instruction set.

Please keep us posted on your discoveries on Intel vs AMD.
